Approximately 40% of women have dense breasts, which can make it more difficult for mammograms aloneto detect breast cancer. Dense tissue and cancer both appear white on a mammogram, potentially maskingsmall abnormalities. ABUS provides an additional layer of screening by using ultrasound technology tocreate detailed 3D images of the entire breast without radiation.

The GE Invenia ABUS is the first FDA-approved automated ultrasound system developed specifically as asupplemental screening exam for women with dense breast tissue. When used in addition tomammography, studies have shown ABUS can improve cancer detection rates compared to mammographyalone.

What to Expect

Your ABUS examination is comfortable, non-invasive, and does not use radiation. During the exam, aspecially designed ultrasound scanner acquires images of the entire breast, creating a comprehensive 3Ddataset for interpretation by a dedicated breast imaging radiologist.
