Ultrasound has been around for over 50 years. Unlike x-ray, ionizing irradiation is not present in ultrasounds which makes it a favorable and popularly modality. Ultrasound is sound waves. 2D ultrasound remains the standard in most diagnostic environments, but 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound is now being used for advanced diagnostic purposes and perinatologists, OB/GYN, and elective ultrasound facilities are using it for non-diagnostic purposes as well for its amazing bonding and psychological benefits. According to a publication on the Effect on Maternal Fetal Bonding, 3D ultrasound pictures appear to have a more positive influence on mothers towards their babies and more specifically, mothers who had a 3D ultrasound showed their images to a greater number of people than those only having a 2D ultrasound images. With the invention of 3D/4D ultrasound, both the diagnostic and elective industry and expectant mothers alike find the vivid ultrasound pictures to be an amazing part of a women’s pregnancy. Seeing your baby in the womb for the first time is a special experience. As you will see here, these babies will do just about everything. When is the best time to see your baby?
Use the legend below to determine the best time/week for you to schedule your visit(s)!
| Weeks 14–20: | This is the best time to see your baby's entire body and determine the gender. |
| Weeks 20–25: | You can now capture the first images of your baby's facial features! This is also the optimal time to visualize fetal movement – i.e. your baby moving its head, hands, arms & feet! |
| Weeks 25–30: | Your baby's features are more defined & developed now -- you will clearly see how much your baby has grown! This is the best time for 3D ultrasound. |
| Weeks 30–35: | Although your baby is nearly full-grown & is too big to be captured entirely in one image, he/she will now be visualized in great detail. It's like having a newborn photo session! |
